FAQ

Q. Who is eligible to receive a scholarship from the Adsum Education Foundation?
A. Recipients must meet all of the following requirements:
Recipients must have attended at least 4 years between grades 7-12 in a Santa Barbara County school. In addition, you must have graduated from a Santa Barbara County high school by June of the current school year.
• Recipients must be full-time students during the time that they receive their scholarship at any California Community College, California State University, or University of California campus.
• Recipients cannot be eligible for any of the following forms of federal financial aid: all Federal Grants, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Loans. Please note that Federal Student Loans are not given based on need. For more information about who is eligible for federal aid, please see: http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/aideligibility.jsp?tab=funding

Q. What criteria do you use to select scholarship recipients?
A. In addition to meeting the eligibility requirements, we will select students who are academically prepared for college, and who have shown motivation by overcoming obstacles. The application will also ask about your extracurricular involvement, employment history, and future goals. Preference will be given to students who qualify for AB 540 benefits.

Q. Why is the application not on the Adsum website and only on the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara website?
A. We are very proud to partner with the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara again this year. The application can be found on their website, and this is the only way to apply. All applications and student materials must be submitted DIRECTLY to the Scholarship Foundation by their stated deadline. The Scholarship Foundation administers this scholarship on our behalf.

Q. My family makes too much money to receive Federal Pell Grants. Does that make me eligible to receive a scholarship from the Adsum Education Foundation?
A. Most students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to receive federal student loans – even if their family income is very high. If you are eligible to receive any type of federal aid - including federal loans- you are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Please see the following website for more information: http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/aideligibility.jsp?tab=funding

Q. Is citizenship status considered in the selection process?
A. Students of any immigration status may apply to receive this scholarship. Preference will be given to undocumented students who do not have access to federal financial aid.
